Tim Regal has focused on the systems and practices that produce great instruction for all students throughout his time in education. He currently works as a trainer and coach for public school districts and regional education service centers on instructional leadership and performance management. Previously, Tim served as the Associate Commissioner of Instructional Support at the Texas Education Agency (TEA), supervising a department of approximately sixty-five employees that oversaw nearly a dozen strategic initiatives, with his primary work focused on the improvement of adult-led systems, using frameworks like the Effective Schools Framework and the Effective District Framework to support the identification of instructional systems gaps, and using trainings and supports, like Texas Instructional Leadership, to build the capacity of campus and district leaders to implement high-leverage practices that improve teaching and learning. Prior to that role, Tim led the design and rollout of Texas Instructional Leadership (TIL), the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS), and the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS). Additionally, Tim has worked as a high school English teacher, a department chair, a teacher trainer for AP Strategies and Laying the Foundation, and a presenter for Advanced Placement preparation sessions throughout the nation. He holds a Bachelor’s degree In English Literature and Italian, a Master’s degree in English, and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs, all from the University of Texas. He currently lives in Austin, Texas with his family.
